American Wrestlers are an indie rock band fronted by the UK influence of songwriter Gary McClure. His former band, Working for a Nuclear Free City, broke up at the end of 2012 and McClure promptly began recording solo. His debut record, "Wreaths," was released the following year, and McClure moved from Manchester, England, to St. Louis, MO, where he currently resides. He recruited his wife, Bridgette Imperial, to play keys and guitar, and added a bass player and drummer to form the current lineup.
American Wrestlers signals a slight shift in style, incorporating the "nu-gaze" of his former band with psychedelic folk songwriting and massive, anthemic choruses. The lo-fi aesthetic of their recordings is overhauled on stage by waves of distorted rock and shape-shifting song construction.
